Unbleached willow and what to expect

Unbleached willow is left in its natural state rather than chemically whitened. It tends to look less uniform than a bleached face — more colour variation, sometimes visible grain marks or small blemishes — and this is cosmetic, not structural. Grade 2.1 willow is selected for performance first.

Knocking-in

Like every natural English willow bat, this one needs knocking-in before it faces a hard ball. Skipping it is the single most common cause of early cracking, and it is not covered by warranty. You have two options: knock it in yourself over several sessions with a mallet, or have our Houston workshop do it for you — we knock in, oil, and prepare bats properly before they ship.
